Welcome to the website of Dr. Matthew Kendra, licensed psychologist with a private practice in Palo Alto, CA. I am trained to work with people who have many different conditions: anxiety, depression, relationship stress, and substance use/addictive behavior. I have been trained in a variety of modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I regularly give presentations on these treatments, as well as teach them to students. I rely on science to inform my practice as I want to give my patients the best chance at recovery. Treatment works best when these evidence-based techniques are combined with a collaborative, supportive stance in therapy.
I am also entering my third year on the clinical faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, currently at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. Here, I serve as Program Director for the outpatient tobacco cessation program at Stanford, and provide group and individual psychotherapy, conduct research, teach, and supervise students learning psychotherapy.
